New South Wales investments ready Sydney for the future

Investments in technology, harbourfront redevelopment and event spaces are bringing Sydney into the future and making it an ideal place for events and meetings.

According to Business Events Sydney, the New South Wales state government has invested $3 billion in what is being dubbed ‘the tech start-up capital of Australia’. Sydney’s new Tech Central precinct stretches across six inner-city neighbourhoods and is just a short distance from Sydney Kingsford Smith International Airport.

In addition to the development of Central Place Sydney and Central Station, the Tech Central precinct will be home to tech giant Atlassian’s 40-storey office.

Meanwhile, on the western harbourfront, Darlington Harbour is undergoing a $2 billion revitalisation project near the International Convention Centre Sydney. The development includes a five-storey, multi-use space that features retail and commercial areas, and an entertainment quarter. It will connect by bridge to the neighbouring inner-city areas of Pyrmont and Haymarket. The updated precinct will feature 10,000 square metres of redeveloped public domain, including a waterfront garden and waterside promenade. The W Sydney hotel, the largest W Hotel in Marriott’s global collection, is scheduled to open here in October 2023.

At Sydney’s working fish market on Blackwattle Bay on the western side of Sydney Harbour, a $750 million building and precinct redevelopment is underway. The ground floor of the new space is home to a vibrant auction house, market hall and food stalls. On the mezzanine is the Sydney Seafood School, a bar and offices. The redevelopment is scheduled for completion in 2024.

On the northern end of Darling Harbour, work continues on the cultural and event facilities at Barangaroo. The natural underground cutaway under Barangaroo Reserve is under development, where elegantly designed palm frond-like columns will create a sculpted rim. The inside will feature cultural and event facilities spanning three levels.
